It was a journey... just he and I... driving the back roads to our destination for the weekend in our little 2 door car. The open countryside and farmlands had a calming effect on our thoughts and as our muscles and nerves began to relax it created an atmosphere for good conversation.
Up ahead~we saw a stop sign warning. We saw the stop sign~ or so we thought! But alas, there were two stop signs, and we had only noticed the 2nd one.
Too late we recognized that there was a stop sign much closer~ and on a divided highway with speeding traffic! No way could we stop for that stop sign the speed we were going. As we came to a stop on the divided highway median, the realization sank in...our car had flown through one section of the divided highway intersection, and we had not gotten hit by an oncoming car!! We were safe, the car was intact, but our hearts were beating fast over what could have been a split second fatal disaster. Sobering thoughts soaked into our awestruck brains. God was giving us another chance, letting us know He is not finished with us yet. There is a reason we are still here and our children are ever more precious to us.
