I am sitting in front of the fireplace this morning, a mug of hot water to clear my scratchy throat and my computer on my lap...catching up on reading. I look at the date of my last post, and realize it has been 3 weeks...so much has happened since then!
We arrived home from our wintry trek to colder climates to our home that showed 61* on the thermostat. We had intentionally left windows open when we departed~to air out the home. It felt good to be home~and we did get the home warmed up a little before falling into bed. Of all the driving we did throughout the snowy country~it was the last day of driving that was the hardest. We encountered shear ice, snow, sleet, and slush. A 10 hour drive turned into 16 due to slowing down. We saw evidences of those who had not known how to drive in such conditions... tracks from cars sliding into ditches, a jack knifed truck receiving help from the patrolman, and an overturned vehicle. We did not see any injuries for which we are grateful. there was not enough snow for anyone to really get stuck. As we were approaching an interstate entrance connection there was a line of cars and trucks parked along the side of the road. We wondered why...until a DMV truck stopped us with the news that the interstate was closed. However we were not getting onto the freeway, so continued on. However the road we were on looked like this~for miles and miles...
| Best to stay on the beaten track even if it isn't where the road is :p We were glad to rest in our own beds after a day like that! |
